Swedish Competition Authority Closes Probe into Access to Crop Data

STOCKHOLM — The Konkurrensverket has closed an investigation into whether access to crop cultivation data from Dataväxt AB had been restricted in a way that could breach competition rules.

The probe examined whether companies seeking access to crop data stored in Dataväxt’s farm management system were being steered instead toward the climate-calculation platform Agrosfär, offered by Agronod AB.

Dataväxt is majority-owned by Lantmännen, which also jointly owns Agronod. The authority had been concerned that competitors to Agronod’s climate-calculation tools could be excluded if they were denied direct access to the underlying agricultural data.

During the investigation, Lantmännen said it would no longer refer companies requesting crop data to Agronod and instead direct them to contact Dataväxt directly. Dataväxt also committed to offering direct access to crop cultivation data on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms.

In light of these assurances, the authority concluded it was no longer sufficiently likely that access to the data would be restricted in a way that could harm competition and decided to close the case.
