WELLINGTON, Dec. 18, 2025 —
New Zealand’s Commerce Commission has decided to issue a Statement of Issues in relation to Mohawk Industries’ proposed acquisition of carpet maker Bremworth, signalling potential competition concerns following an initial review.
The clearance application would see Mohawk, through its New Zealand subsidiary Godfrey Hirst, acquire 100% of Bremworth’s shares. The Statement of Issues, to be published shortly, will outline the Commission’s preliminary concerns and invite submissions from the parties and other interested stakeholders.
The regulator stressed that issuing a Statement of Issues is not a final decision and does not indicate whether the merger will ultimately be cleared or blocked. It added that the deadline for a decision, originally set for Dec. 22, is likely to be extended pending agreement with Godfrey Hirst.
