MELBOURNE, Dec. 19, 2025 —
Australia’s competition regulator has cleared Coles’ acquisition of leases to open new supermarkets at Mt Atkinson and Deanside in Victoria, subject to the divestment of a nearby site to preserve competition.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said it accepted a court-enforceable undertaking requiring Coles to sell its Kororoit Town Centre site to an approved buyer, ensuring the location remains available for a rival supermarket. Without the divestment, the regulator said Coles would have controlled most large supermarket-suitable sites in the local area, significantly limiting consumer choice in the fast-growing Melton corridor.
