Madrid, November 13, 2025 — Spain’s CNMC has asked La Liga to narrow the scope of its upcoming tender for domestic broadcasting rights, warning that several proposed conditions exceed the powers granted under Royal Decree-Law 5/2015 and could undermine a transparent and competitive award process.
The authority reviewed La Liga’s planned sale of multiple lots of first-division rights for the 2027–2032 seasons, which cover exclusive live broadcasts for residential customers in Spain and Andorra.
The CNMC said La Liga must confine itself to jointly marketing only those rights expressly conferred by statute and avoid implying ownership or control over rights not granted by the decree, including emission rights it does not hold.
It also urged La Liga to ensure that bidder cooperation obligations remain proportionate, to strengthen transparency in evaluation and award criteria, and to avoid packaging options in ways that could concentrate rights with a single buyer, contrary to the decree’s requirements.
The report forms part of the mandatory review process under Royal Decree-Law 5/2015, which requires rights sellers to obtain the CNMC’s assessment before launching commercialization.
