Swedish Competition Authority Closes Investigation Into Stockholm Parkering’s Charging Fee Model

The Swedish Competition Authority has closed its investigation into Stockholm Parkering’s bundled payment model, where electric vehicle (EV) charging fees were included in parking fees. The municipally owned company announced plans to implement separate charges for EV charging starting in 2025, addressing competition concerns raised during the inquiry.

The Authority had investigated whether the pricing model, which effectively provided free EV charging, distorted competition in the growing charging infrastructure market. Subsidizing charging costs through parking revenue was found to risk inhibiting competition.

Following Stockholm Parkering’s commitment to change its payment structure, the Authority concluded that the competition concerns had been resolved, ensuring fairer market conditions for EV charging providers.
