CMA Launches Inquiry into Topps Tiles and CTD Tiles Asset Acquisition

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating Topps Tiles Plc’s acquisition of certain assets from Tildist Realisations Limited (formerly CTD Tiles Limited). The inquiry, opened on October 3, 2024, seeks to determine if the merger has created or may create a substantial lessening of competition in the UK retail market.

The CMA has issued an initial enforcement order, requiring Topps Tiles to appoint a monitoring trustee and hold separate manager to ensure market integrity during the inquiry. The authority has also launched an invitation to comment open until December 18, 2024, encouraging stakeholders to submit their views on potential competitive impacts.

The investigation remains in its preliminary phase, with updates expected as the CMA gathers information and progresses its assessment.
