Colombian Dairy Companies Fined Over Raw Milk Payment Violations

On October 29, 2024, Colombia’s Superintendency of Industry and Commerce imposed initial fines totaling 1.1 billion COP (approx. USD 275,000) on twelve companies in the dairy sector for violations related to the raw milk payment system. Sanctioned companies include major industry players such as Läktoland SAS, Colanta Cooperative, Nestlé de Colombia SA, and Alpina Food Products SAS BIC.

Investigations by the Delegation for Control and Verification of Technical Regulations and Legal Metrology revealed that companies failed to adhere to payment regulations set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Specifically, they neglected to pay for transport and storage costs due to untracked vehicle identification and distance reporting. Additionally, irregularities were found in rewarding production variables tied to milk quality, hygiene, and good livestock practices.

The Superintendency emphasized that transparency in pricing is crucial to protect producers and maintain fairness in the dairy market. Companies may file appeals against these administrative sanctions.
