TCA Launches Major Investigation into Private Schools Over Alleged Price Hikes and Bundling Practices

ANKARA, February 26, 2026 – The Turkish Competition Authority (TCA) has initiated a comprehensive investigation into several prominent private educational institutions following numerous complaints regarding tuition fees and the pricing of ancillary services.

The probe follows a preliminary investigation triggered by reports of excessive price increases in tuition, catering, textbooks, stationery, and school uniforms. The TCA is also examining allegations that schools have made the purchase of these additional services mandatory from specific suppliers, effectively “tying” them to the core educational service.

In-House Insights

The private education sector has been under the TCA’s lens since the pandemic. Having already conducted investigations into the labor market practices of these schools, the TCA is now responding to the growing number of complaints from parents regarding school costs.

It’s clear that the TCA is highly sensitive to public feedback and consumer concerns. Once the Authority focuses on a sector, it tends to examine it from every angle to ensure fair competition.

We understand that the TCA intends to further intensify its scrutiny of anti-competitive practices within service-oriented markets.
