São Paulo, January 23, 2026 – A Brazilian court has suspended a preventive measure imposed by competition authority CADE that barred Meta from restricting third-party artificial intelligence tools on WhatsApp Business, according to local newswires.
The suspension concerns a measure adopted as part of CADE’s investigation into alleged anticompetitive conduct by Meta linked to new WhatsApp Business user terms. Those terms, announced last year, banned AI providers and developers from accessing or using the business version of the messaging app, following complaints from AI chatbot providers, as reported.
The development follows CADE’s ongoing probe into whether Meta’s updated WhatsApp Business rules amount to anticompetitive practices. Competition.Today previously reported on the authority’s decision to intervene in relation to WhatsApp’s AI integration amid concerns over Meta’s market position.
