Cairo, January 4, 2026 — The Egyptian ECA said it has confirmed violations by 18 schools over practices affecting the school-uniform market, after receiving complaints from parents through its hotline, website, and social media channels.
The authority said the schools’ conduct included steering parents to buy uniforms from specific outlets, changing uniform designs and specifications, and failing to provide sufficient advance notice of those changes. The ECA also cited practices it described as tying or bundling, including requiring the purchase of uniforms as complete sets rather than allowing items to be bought separately.
The ECA said the findings were made in the context of its consumer-awareness campaign for the school season and that it has prioritised the sector due to its direct impact on households. The authority added it had proven violations by 45 schools in the school-uniform sector during the year.
The ECA warned that the conduct can burden family budgets through higher prices and lower quality, and can also harm manufacturers and retailers by distorting market conditions and limiting opportunities for new entrants and investment.
The authority urged consumers who encounter similar practices to contact its hotline (15157) or submit complaints by email or through its website.
