Athens, December 10, 2025 — The Greek authority has opened a sweeping examination of pricing and market dynamics across the country’s entire food supply chain amid sustained pressure on household budgets from rising grocery costs.
Sector Mapping
The new initiative expands on the authority’s recent inquiries into milk, yogurt, feta, animal feed, and veterinary pharmaceuticals, completed in October. Officials aim to build a comprehensive picture of how firms interact from farm production through processing to retail distribution.
Focus on Market Structure, Pricing Pressures
The authority said its work will assess how market conditions, inflation trends and broader economic factors shape outcomes for consumers and producers. The review will apply multiple indicators of market structure and performance, using both firm-level and sector-level data.
Officials said the exercise is intended to pinpoint distortions linked to limited rivalry as well as deeper structural weaknesses in Greece’s agri-food economy.
Results Expected in 2026
The authority noted that its sectoral studies serve as a key analytical tool for identifying potential concerns across industries, separate from merger reviews or conducting cases under national law and EU rules.
Findings are expected in the third quarter of 2026.
