Washington, DC, November 8, 2025 — The US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) are investigating major meat-packing companies following a directive from President Donald Trump to examine alleged price manipulation in the beef market.

The president, in a Truth Social post, said he had asked the DOJ to “immediately begin an investigation into the Meat Packing Companies who are driving up the price of beef through illicit collusion, price fixing, and price manipulation.” He accused “majority foreign-owned” firms of inflating prices and endangering the nation’s food security.

Trump said protecting American ranchers was a priority, asserting that they were being “blamed for what is being done by large corporate packers.” He urged the DOJ to act “expeditiously” to safeguard consumers and prevent “criminal profiteering.”

Attorney General Pamela Bondi, in her social media post, confirmed that Abigail Slater, head of the DOJ’s Antitrust Division, has taken the lead on the investigation in coordination with Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and the USDA.
