Croatian Authority Opens Probe Into Mauthner Over Alleged Buyer Power Abuse

Zagreb, November 3, 2025 — Croatia’s Competition Agency (AZTN) has launched administrative proceedings against Mauthner d.o.o., a grain buyer based in Koprivnica, to determine whether the company abused its significant bargaining power by imposing unfair trading practices on its corn suppliers.

Investigation Triggered by Complaint

The agency said it opened the procedure following a complaint suggesting that Mauthner may have violated the Act on the Prohibition of Unfair Trading Practices in the Food Supply Chain (ZNTP). The AZTN noted that it had found sufficient grounds to begin proceedings ex officio after assessing the information received.

Scope of the Investigation

The authority emphasized that the launch of proceedings does not imply a finding of infringement. The investigation will examine the content and implementation of Mauthner’s commercial arrangements with corn suppliers, focusing on whether the company used its market position to impose unfair or disproportionate terms.

The AZTN stated that it cannot comment further or disclose details of the ongoing case due to business confidentiality.
