Slovenia’s Watchdog Launches TV Advertising Market Probe

Ljubljana, September 22, 2025 — Slovenia’s Competition Protection Commission (CPC) has announced a sectoral inquiry into the country’s television advertising market, citing concerns over potential restrictions or distortions of competition.

The decision follows CPC’s monitoring of the market and information received, pointing to structural features that warrant closer scrutiny.

The authority noted that the TV advertising market was last examined in a 2013 decision and that the absence of up-to-date data, indications of possible advertiser lock-in, and a lack of market dynamics justify a fresh review.

The inquiry will focus on collecting information from key stakeholders, including media space providers as well as direct and indirect advertisers.

“The sectoral inquiry is not directed against any specific market participant or provider,” the agency said in its announcement. “Its purpose is to obtain a comprehensive picture of how the market operates. However, if we identify circumstances suggesting possible violations of the country’s Competition Act or EU rules, we will act accordingly.”

CPC is inviting companies and individuals with relevant data or insights to share them via its official contact email. Once the inquiry is complete, the agency will publish its findings on its website.
