UK’s CMA Investigates Possible Anti-Competitive Conduct in Waste Management Sector

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has opened an investigation into suspected anti-competitive behavior under Chapter I of the Competition Act 1998 concerning waste management services. The probe, launched on 24 June 2025, targets Bagnall & Morris (Waste Services) Ltd, Gaskells (North West) Limited, and Ash Waste Services Limited.

The CMA has not yet determined whether there is enough evidence to issue formal objections. If such objections are made, the companies will have the chance to respond before a final decision is reached.
