US FTC Opens Public Inquiry into Anti-Competitive Regulations Following Executive Order

WASHINGTON, D.C. — April 14, 2025
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) today launched a major public inquiry aimed at identifying federal regulations that stifle competition, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The move comes in response to President Trump’s Executive Order on Reducing Anticompetitive Regulatory Barriers, as the administration seeks to revitalize the American economy.

Under the leadership of Chairman Andrew N. Ferguson, the Trump-Vance FTC will play a key role in advancing the President’s pro-market agenda. In a statement, Ferguson emphasized the damaging impact of excessive regulation: “Regulations that reduce competition, entrepreneurship, and innovation can hamper the American economy. These need to be eliminated or modified to revitalize a competitive market.”

Through a newly issued Request for Information (RFI), the FTC is inviting consumers, workers, businesses, start-ups, investors, academics, and other stakeholders to share their experiences and perspectives on how federal regulations may harm competition. The agency is particularly interested in rules that exclude new entrants, protect dominant firms, or otherwise skew market dynamics in favor of established players.

Public comments can be submitted at Regulations.gov and must be received by May 27, 2025. Submissions will be made publicly available on the site. The FTC also clarified that comments already provided to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Anticompetitive Regulations Task Force, if relevant, do not need to be resubmitted.

This latest initiative underscores the FTC’s broader mission to promote competition and protect consumers. The agency continues to warn the public that it will never solicit money, issue threats, or promise prizes.

For more information about the FTC’s work, or to file an antitrust complaint, individuals are encouraged to visit the agency’s website or follow its official channels.
