EFTA and Kosovo Sign Free Trade Agreement

On 22 January 2025, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the Republic of Kosovo signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, hosted by Switzerland.

The agreement, signed by senior representatives of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, and Kosovo’s Minister Rozeta Hajdari, marks the culmination of negotiations initiated in 2022. It addresses key areas such as trade in goods and services, intellectual property rights, trade facilitation, sustainable development, and competition.

The competition provisions are expected to enhance fair market practices, reducing anti-competitive barriers and fostering a level playing field for businesses across all signatory states.

With trade between EFTA and Kosovo reaching over €176 million in 2023, the FTA aims to further boost economic ties, benefiting industries like automotive, pharmaceuticals, furniture, and metals, while setting a precedent for sustainable and competitive trade relations.
