The Competition Commission (CC) and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong have signed (18 December) a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in tackling corruption and anti-competitive practices. The agreement, formalized on December 18, 2024, establishes a framework for case referrals, joint investigations, and coordinated training efforts.
The first joint training session, completed by 30 staff members, focused on planning joint operations, conducting searches, and interviewing suspects. This collaboration builds on recent joint actions, including investigations into bid-rigging and corruption in the building maintenance sector, which uncovered contract irregularities worth over HK$1 billion.
CC Chairman Samuel Chan emphasized the importance of this partnership in ensuring a fair and transparent business environment, while ICAC Commissioner Woo Ying-ming highlighted its significance for enhancing Hong Kong’s global reputation as a free economy.
