The Competition Council (KP) has announced (5 November) the launch of Competitiveness Week from November 12-15 – a series of events highlighting the vital role of competition in business, government, and society. Through public discussions, surveys, and expert panels, the event will explore current competition issues, provide self-assessment tools, and share insights into fair trade practices to build a more competitive and cooperative marketplace in Latvia.
The week will kick off on November 12 with the presentation of KP’s biennial public opinion survey and a panel discussion on the state of competition policy in Latvia. Panellists include representatives from government, business, and law, such as Juris Gaiķis from KP and Jānis Endziņš of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They will discuss research findings, competition challenges, and potential areas for future collaboration.
The same day, a discussion titled “Competition – The Driving Force of Growth?” will delve into competition’s role across sectors like healthcare, tourism, sports, and media, with insights from industry voices like filmmaker Dzintars Dreibergs and broadcaster Kārlis Kazāks. Panellists will consider how technology is reshaping industries and whether competition continues to drive innovation and growth.
On November 13, the ninth annual KP Lawyers’ Forum will bring together competition law experts to discuss theoretical and practical aspects of the law, providing a key forum for the exchange of ideas and best practices in this evolving field.
The focus will shift to the food industry on November 15 at the conference “Competitiveness: Food Industry in Latvia.” Speakers will analyze the supply chain dynamics within Latvia’s food sector, including price trends and potential solutions for ensuring price stability and efficiency. Policy makers and analysts, including Deniss Ščeulovs from KP and Oļegs Krasnopjorovs from the Bank of Latvia, will offer insights on improving supply chain resilience.
On the final day, November 15, a special session titled “From Field to Shelf: Challenges, Adaptation, Revelations” will showcase the experiences of Latvian entrepreneurs in adapting to market challenges, with stories from industry figures like Toms Auškāps of Balticovo and Darja Trizna from Ågenskalns Market.
Throughout the week, KP representatives will also offer guest lectures at leading Latvian universities, aiming to inform students about competition law, fair trade practices, and the fundamentals of economic analysis.
Public events and discussions will be livestreamed on KP’s website and social media channels. Those interested in attending in person are encouraged to register by November 8 via KP’s website or by contacting the KP Communication Department’s senior communication specialist, Paula Celma.
