ROME, April 28, 2026 — The Italian Competition Authority has fined three major snack producers a total of €23.3 million for participating in a cartel involving savoury snacks produced for supermarket private labels.
The authority found that Amica Chips S.p.A., Pata S.p.A. and Preziosi Food S.p.A. entered into an anti-competitive agreement to share the market for savoury snacks manufactured for large-scale retailers and sold under supermarkets’ own brands.
Market-sharing cartel
According to the regulator, the companies engaged in a single, complex and continuous cartel, coordinating their commercial strategies to divide supply opportunities for private-label snack products among themselves.
The conduct was found to restrict competition in breach of Article 101 TFEU, which prohibits agreements between companies that prevent, restrict or distort competition within the EU.
The fines imposed were:
- €8,239,210 on Amica Chips
- €7,555,387 on Pata
- €7,503,550 on Preziosi Food
Leniency and settlement
The authority said it granted fine reductions to Pata
