LIMA, April 6, 2026 — Peru’s competition authority, National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property, has launched sanctioning proceedings against five poultry companies and three individuals over suspected collusion to fix prices for live chicken.
The case was initiated by the authority’s National Directorate for the Investigation and Promotion of Free Competition following a preliminary investigation indicating that the companies may have coordinated price increases and maintained agreed price levels for live chicken sold by kilogram.
The alleged conduct took place between February 2020 and March 2021 in several regions of northern Peru, including Lambayeque, La Libertad, Piura, Áncash and Cajamarca.
According to the authority, the suspected cartel may have coordinated price changes through WhatsApp conversations, while compliance with the alleged agreement was monitored through phone calls, messaging and oversight by company sales staff. The information gathered during the investigation reportedly aligns with sales data submitted by the companies during the period under review.
The companies under investigation are Avícola Yugoslavia S.A.C., Molino La Perla S.A.C., Técnica Avícola S.A., El Rocío S.A. and Chimú Agropecuaria S.A..
Together, these firms accounted for more than 80% of the total live chicken production in the affected regions during 2020 and 2021, according to the competition authority.
Indecopi stressed that the opening of sanctioning proceedings is based on reasonable indications of potential anticompetitive conduct and does not prejudge the final outcome of the investigation or the liability of the parties involved.
Under Peru’s competition law, the companies and individuals have 30 working days to submit their defence. The authority has also invited individuals or organisations with relevant information to contribute to the investigation.
