UK Tribunal Stays Skimbit’s Shopping Damages Claim Against Google Following Settlement

London, February 6, 2026 — The UK Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) has stayed proceedings in an abuse of damages claim against Google and its parent Alphabet after the parties confirmed they had reached a confidential settlement.

The CAT stayed the proceedings brought by Skimbit Ltd, Connexity Europe GmbH, and Connexity against Google UK Limited, Google Ireland Limited, Google LLC, and Alphabet, Inc., except for the limited purpose of giving effect to the agreed settlement terms.

The case originated in the High Court of England and Wales and was partially transferred to the CAT in March 2024. The transferred claims were subsequently subject to a partial stay ordered by the CAT later that month, while the remaining claims before the High Court were stayed in January 2025.

The case is part of the wider “UK Shopping Proceedings,” a set of damages actions brought by comparison shopping service operators following the European Commission’s 2017 Google Shopping decision.

According to the consent order, both the claimants and defendants jointly applied to the tribunal after confirming that they were no longer in dispute, having agreed to settle the claims under the terms of a confidential agreement. Copies of that agreement are held by the parties but were not made public.

The parties also agreed to apply for the withdrawal of the CAT proceedings and the High Court claims once the conditions specified in the confidential settlement agreement have been completed.

Under the order, the CAT proceedings will remain stayed against the defendants, except to allow the parties to apply to the tribunal as necessary to implement the settlement. The tribunal granted permission for such applications to be made without requiring fresh proceedings.

The case is 1636/5/7/24 (T) Skimbit and Ors v Google UK and Ors before the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
