Ankara, January 21, 2026 — The Turkish Competition Authority (TCA) conducted a dawn raid at the Türkiye office of Chinese online retailer Temu amid intensifying international scrutiny of e-commerce platforms, local newswires have reported.
In October 2025, Germany’s Bundeskartellamt opened proceedings against the platform over concerns related to seller terms on temu.com. This was followed in December 2025 by unannounced inspections conducted by the European Commission in the EU e-commerce sector.
The Turkish raid comes against a shifting regulatory and trade backdrop. From February 6, 2026, new customs rules require all online imports to undergo official clearance procedures, following the end of the longstanding €30 customs exemption. These changes are expected to have a significant impact on cross-border e-commerce operators such as Temu, increasing compliance obligations and regulatory oversight.
In a statement responding to public reports, the TCA stressed that:
“The ongoing review, as reported publicly, is conducted under our standard procedures and should not be interpreted as entering a formal investigation phase. At this stage, detailed information cannot be disclosed in order to preserve confidentiality, impartiality, and prevent any potential prejudice. Updates on the progress of the process will be shared with the public in due course, in line with our transparency principle.”
