EU Questions Shein Over Safeguards Against Illegal Goods Under DSA

Brussels, November 26, 2025 — The European Commission has asked Shein to explain how it prevents illegal and age-inappropriate products from circulating on its platform after indications that child-like sex dolls, weapons, and other prohibited items were available for sale in the EU.

The request for information, issued under the Digital Services Act, follows incidents in France and additional public reports suggesting systemic risks for consumers across the bloc. Shein, designated as a Very Large Online Platform, must assess and mitigate risks linked to illegal content and to minors’ safety.

Risk and oversight concerns

EU officials asked the company to detail its measures for detecting and removing banned goods, its age-assurance tools, and internal processes for preventing minors from encountering inappropriate content. The Commission is also seeking evidence of the effectiveness of these safeguards.

The inquiry marks the Commission’s third formal request to Shein under the DSA. Officials said they continue monitoring compliance by all designated platforms and stand ready to act if systemic failures are confirmed.
