KFTC Chair Discusses Policy, Business Concerns with Foreign Chambers

Sejong, November 6, 2025 — The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC), chaired by Joo Byung-gi, held a roundtable meeting with the heads and representatives of American, European, British, German, French, Spanish, and Australian foreign chambers of commerce in Korea to exchange views on policy and address issues faced by foreign businesses.

The meeting, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul, brought together leaders including James Kim, Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM), Philippe Van Hoof, Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea, and Shaun Blakely, head of the British Chamber, among others.

The discussion forms part of Chairman Joo’s ongoing series of field meetings with key industry groups, aimed at directly engaging with stakeholders to improve regulatory transparency and enhance policy predictability. Since his appointment, Joo has met with a range of business sectors, including small and medium enterprises, franchise operators, subcontractors, and consumer groups.

The KFTC said the session was designed to listen to the concerns of foreign enterprises regarding Korea’s competition and regulatory environment, while outlining the Commission’s current enforcement and policy priorities. The meeting also focused on promoting fair competition, supporting innovation, and ensuring a level playing field for domestic and international firms.

The Commission noted that similar dialogues with consumer and digital platform representatives are scheduled later this month as part of its broader initiative to strengthen communication with market participants.
