Austria Appoints New Head of Market and Cartel Screening Unit

Vienna, November 3, 2025 — Austria’s Federal Competition Authority (BWB) has appointed Mag. Corinna Potocnik-Manzouri as head of its Market and Cartel Screening Unit, strengthening the agency’s expertise in digital investigation methods and proactive cartel detection.

Strengthening Digital Enforcement Capacity

The Market and Cartel Screening Unit was established in 2025 to identify restrictive or distortive market behaviour through digital tools and analytical methods. The department combines legal, economic, and digital expertise to enhance the effectiveness of competition enforcement in Austria.

Leadership Appointment

Director General Natalie Harsdorf formally appointed Potocnik-Manzouri on November 1, 2025, after she had led the unit on an interim basis since April. The unit operates within the strategic staff division headed by Barbara Seelos.

Potocnik-Manzouri joined the BWB in 2022, following academic and professional experience in European law and competition policy, including roles at the University of Vienna and several law firms in Austria and abroad. She is also the author of numerous legal publications and lectures regularly on competition and EU law.
