Copenhagen, October 10, 2025 – The Danish Maritime and Commercial High Court has upheld a DKK 9 million ($1.4 million) fine against the bankrupt baby and children’s retail chain ØnskeBørn A/S, following findings that the group coordinated prices among its member stores.
The decision follows a 2023 ruling by the Danish Competition Council, which found that the voluntary chain had coordinated prices and marketing for baby and children’s products between October 2016 and November 2018, and again in spring 2020.
ØnskeBørn, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, had appealed the council’s decision, seeking acquittal. However, its bankruptcy estate declined to continue the proceedings, leading the court to issue a default judgment confirming the council’s proposed fine.
According to the authority, the price coordination was carried out through directives from the chain’s headquarters to its member stores, covering both proprietary and exclusive product lines.
ØnskeBørn A/S had served as the coordinating entity for the chain, facilitating joint purchasing and marketing among independent member retailers until its bankruptcy in spring 2025.
