Huainan, China – August 21, 2025
China’s competition authority has pledged to intensify antitrust enforcement in pharmaceuticals, public utilities, and the platform economy, as part of a nationwide campaign focused on sectors that directly affect consumers.
At a meeting in Huainan, Anhui Province, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) reviewed the progress of its “people’s livelihood” enforcement initiative and set priorities for the rest of the year. Officials said the campaign has already produced “notable results” in tackling anticompetitive conduct across key industries.
The regulator underscored that enforcement will be tied to Beijing’s broader goal of building a unified national market and supporting “high-quality economic development.” Authorities are expected to target practices that disrupt competition and undermine consumer and business interests.
Market regulators from Tianjin, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Anhui, Guangxi, and Sichuan shared case studies and enforcement experiences at the meeting. Senior SAMR officials and representatives from provincial-level regulators also attended.
