Fair Trade Commission Holds 23rd Meeting to Combat Bid Rigging in Public Procurement

On July 2nd, the Fair Trade Commission (FTC), chaired by Han Ki-jung, convened the 23rd meeting of related organizations to strengthen efforts against bid rigging in public markets. The meeting brought together 22 key public sector agencies, including the Public Procurement Service, Korea Railroad Corporation, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and others, at the FTC conference room.

The council serves as a platform for public procurement agencies to share information gathered through the FTC’s bid rigging indication analysis system—a surveillance tool launched in 2006 that detects signs of collusion by analyzing bidding data.

The director of the FTC’s Cartel Investigation Bureau emphasized the severity of bid rigging, highlighting its impact on wasting national resources and increasing costs for the public. He called on ordering agencies to take an active role in preventing such illegal activities and reaffirmed the FTC’s commitment to close monitoring and cooperation with related organizations to eradicate bid rigging.
