Swiss Competition Authority Investigates Suspected Collusion in Steel Trade

Bern, 26 June 2025 — The Swiss Competition Commission (WEKO) has launched an investigation into possible illegal agreements among steel traders in the canton of Ticino. As part of the inquiry, WEKO conducted house searches at several companies.

The investigation centers on four steel trading companies suspected of coordinating various price elements related to the sale and delivery of steel over multiple years. Additionally, there are indications that these companies may have divided customers among themselves.

WEKO aims to determine whether these practices constitute prohibited anticompetitive behavior under Swiss competition law. Such investigations typically take around two years to complete.
