Charges Against Portuguese Business Association for Minimum Price Fixing in Tourism Sector

Lisbon, 24 April 2025 — The Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC) has launched an investigation into a business association for allegedly setting minimum prices in the tourism sector. The investigation, initiated in June 2024, found that the association had been imposing price minimums through fee schedules and by recommending price increases for members and other service providers since at least 2020.

The AdC has issued a Notice of Unlawfulness, marking the transition to the investigation phase. The business association, which is presumed innocent, will now have the opportunity to defend itself against the charges.

Such price-fixing practices are deemed anti-competitive and harmful to consumers. The AdC continues to emphasize the importance of competition, with the aim of protecting both consumer welfare and market competitiveness.
