The Austrian Federal Competition Authority (AFCA) has applied to the Cartel Court to fine six construction companies for their involvement in illegal bid rigging on civil engineering projects in Burgenland. The companies — Eibel, GS-Bau, Kienzl, Neumayer, Pfnier, and Schwartz-Bau — participated in coordinated price fixing, bogus offers, and exchange of sensitive bidding information to distort competition and allocate contracts.
The firms admitted to the conduct and cooperated outside the leniency programme, prompting the AFCA to request reduced fines ranging from €26,000 to €495,000. The infringements form part of a broader nationwide cartel still under investigation.
