Stockholm, 10 March 2025 – The Swedish Competition Authority has been tasked by the government with mapping price transparency in the veterinary sector to assess its impact on pricing and competition.
A previous government report (Better Conditions in Animal Health Care, SOU 2022:58) found that pet owners struggle to compare veterinary costs due to insufficient price transparency. The new investigation will focus on areas where a lack of transparency may hinder competition or drive up prices. If necessary, the Authority will identify non-public information that could improve price comparisons if made available.
The findings, along with proposals for measures to enhance transparency, must be submitted to the government by 1 March 2026.
A 2018 report by the Authority highlighted factors affecting veterinary costs, including clinic choice and visit timing. The current study aims to address these issues and provide consumers with better tools to compare prices and insurance coverage.
