Nigeria’s NCA Files Charges Against MultiChoice Over Violations

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken legal action against MultiChoice Nigeria Limited and its CEO, John Ugbe, for defying regulatory directives and obstructing an ongoing inquiry.

The FCCPC had ordered MultiChoice on February 27, 2025, to halt a planned price increase for DStv and GOtv pending a review. However, the company proceeded with the hike on March 1, 2025, in defiance of the directive.

In response, the FCCPC has filed charges at the Federal High Court in Lagos, citing violations of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018. The charges include obstructing an investigation, failing to comply with regulatory orders, and misleading the Commission.

The FCCPC has condemned MultiChoice’s actions as an attempt to undermine regulatory authority and consumer protection. Further enforcement measures, including penalties and sanctions, are under review.
