The Norwegian Competition Authority’s decision to block Norva24 Vest’s acquisition of Vitek Miljø has been upheld (31 January) by the Competition Complaints Board, according to a press relase published on the competition authority’s website (3 February).
The ruling confirms that the merger would have reduced competition in the emptying and flushing services market, particularly in Western Norway.
Norva24 Vest, part of a larger nationwide group, sought to acquire Bergen-based Vitek Miljø, but regulators determined the deal would eliminate competition between two key players.
The merging parties filed a complaint against the decision, which has now been dismissed.
Chief Economist Hans-Petter H. Hanson welcomed the decision, emphasizing that preserving competition ensures lower prices and better service quality for private, public, and corporate customers.
