South Africa Tribunal Publishes Reasons for Interim Relief Against Google

The Competition Tribunal has published its reasons for granting interim relief to Lottoland South Africa against Google. The order requires Google Ireland and Google South Africa to grant Lottoland access to its advertising platform, Google Ads, for six months or until the conclusion of a hearing into alleged prohibited practices.

Lottoland, a licensed bookmaker offering fixed-odds betting on lotteries and other events, claimed Google’s actions restricted its ability to compete with other bookmakers, including Hollywood Bets and Betway. The Competition Commission is investigating the matter.

Details are available on the Tribunal’s website: link.
