Portugal Approves Sotagus Acquisition by Yilport and Grupo Sousa with Commitments

The Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC) has approved (6 December) the acquisition of Sotagus – Terminal de Contentores de Santa Apolónia, SA by Yilport Iberia and Grupo Sousa, following commitments proposed by the acquirers to address competition concerns.

The commitments include the divestment of Grupo Sousa’s stake in the Lisbon Multipurpose Terminal and tariff guarantees ensuring fair access to Sotagus for competitors in maritime cargo transport between Lisbon and the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores. These measures mitigate horizontal and vertical competition risks identified during the AdC’s review, promoting a balanced competitive landscape in the maritime cargo sector.
