The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has initiated (6 December) a Phase 1 inquiry into the anticipated acquisition of Teads S.A. by Outbrain Inc., and Altice Teads S.A.’s minority shareholding acquisition in Outbrain Inc.
The inquiry will assess whether the transactions create a “relevant merger situation” under the Enterprise Act 2002 and if they could substantially lessen competition in the UK’s communications market. A preliminary invitation to comment, open from November 6 to November 20, 2024, gathered initial views from interested parties.
The CMA has set a statutory deadline of February 5, 2025, to conclude its Phase 1 decision. Further updates will be published as the investigation progresses.
