Peru Advances in OECD Competition Evaluation

As part of its ongoing process to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Peru has completed (5 December) the first round of evaluation of its competition regime during the 144th session of the OECD Competition Committee. The session, held from December 5 to 6 in Paris, provided an opportunity for Peru’s competition authority, Indecopi, to present its progress and engage with OECD member countries.

Javier Documet, Director of Research and Promotion of Free Competition at Indecopi, highlighted the country’s achievements, including its designation as a Regional Competition Centre in 2019 and the implementation of a prior control regime for business operations in 2021. These milestones were praised by the OECD examiners, who recognized Peru’s commitment to strengthening its competition framework.

The session included discussions on key aspects such as institutional design, market studies, concentration control, and the investigation of collusive practices and abuse of dominant positions. Indecopi responded to queries from member countries and reaffirmed Peru’s dedication to aligning its competition policies with international standards.

Peru’s active participation in the OECD Competition Committee since 2012 has marked significant strides toward strengthening its competition policies. The completion of this evaluation round is seen as an important step toward securing OECD membership, further enhancing the country’s competitive and investment-friendly environment.
