The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has issued (4 December) an open letter to local authorities and transport bodies, addressing concerns about street furniture contracts containing exclusivity clauses for advertising.
This follows the CMA’s engagement with advertising giant JCDecaux, which has agreed not to enforce exclusivity terms that would hinder the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging points with integrated advertising.
The CMA’s move aims to ensure that exclusivity clauses do not impede the deployment of EV infrastructure, promoting competition and supporting the UK’s sustainability goals.
Authorities are encouraged to review their contracts to ensure compliance and facilitate innovative solutions like integrated EV charging and advertising installations.
