The Taiwan Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has announced (20 November) October enforcement actions against businesses across several industries, addressing violations ranging from concerted practices to misleading advertisements. Key actions include:
- Taichung City Locksmiths Association
The association received a warning for breaching Article 15(1) of the Fair Trade Act by establishing a price list for unlocking and key-making services, constituting an illegal concerted action. - Book Distribution Companies
Eight book distributors, including United Distribution Co., Ltd. and Dai Ho Book Co., Ltd., were penalized for colluding to maintain uniform transaction discounts, disrupting competition in the domestic book market. Fines totaled NT$1.4 million, with individual penalties ranging from NT$100,000 to NT$800,000. - Taiwan Pan Pacific Retail Management Co., Ltd.
The company was issued a warning after a capsule toy event at Don Don Donki Ximen Store falsely advertised a grand prize that was absent from vending machines, violating Article 21(1). - Shangchi Construction Co., Ltd.
Fined NT$400,000 for misleading claims about its Shangchi housing project, promoting features inconsistent with the product’s actual capabilities. - Zhuo Xing Ltd.
A “cooling technology” blanket marketed on its website was found to have exaggerated performance claims. The company was fined NT$50,000 for violating advertising standards under Article 21(1). - Richbear Marketing Ltd.
A crowdfunding campaign for the “Aquila stress-relieving Titan bag” falsely claimed it was the first and only helmet-compatible backpack on the market. The company was fined NT$200,000. - Trachinoid Department Co.
Misleading claims about a fat-reduction machine’s effectiveness resulted in a fine of NT$50,000 for the company’s manager. - Yahoo! Taiwan and Chung Yang Fire Fighting Supplier Co., Ltd.
Both companies were fined NT$50,000 each for falsely advertising a fire alarm smoke detector as the “cheapest in the country.”
