Dr. Fahad Al-Shathri Appointed Head of Saudi Arabia’s Competition Authority

Dr. Fahad Al-Shathri, a renowned economist and former senior leader at the Saudi Central Bank, has been appointed head of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Competition, the authority announced on 17 November.

With a PhD in Economics from Lehigh University, Dr. Al-Shathri has played a pivotal role in shaping the Kingdom’s economic policies, particularly in monetary policy and financial stability. His extensive experience includes representing Saudi Arabia at global organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, the G20, and the Basel Committee on Banking Legislation.

Dr. Al-Shathri has also held leadership positions in institutions such as the Social Development Bank, the Financial Academy, and the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority. He was instrumental in founding key organizations, including the Bank for Small and Medium Enterprises and the Saudi Company for Real Estate Housing Guarantee Services.
