The European Union has launched two investigations into the practices of the Chinese e-commerce platform Temu, which is popular among EU consumers, including 92 million monthly users. The inquiries, led by consumer authorities in Belgium, Germany, and Ireland, with support from Finland, aim to address alleged consumer rights breaches.
Authorities accuse Temu of using misleading tactics, including fake discounts, pressure to buy, forced gamification, unclear refund policies, fake reviews, and hidden contact information. The platform has one month to propose corrective actions. A separate investigation is underway under the EU’s Digital Services Act, focusing on Temu’s compliance with digital transparency regulations.
