Moldova’s Competition Council and Foreign Investors Association Discuss Strengthening of Competitive Framework

CHISINAU, Moldova, February 9, 2026 – The Competition Council of Moldova hosted a working meeting on February 6, 2026 with representatives of the Foreign Investors Association of Moldova (FIA Moldova) in the context of the launch of the FIA White Paper 2025, a strategic document setting out reform proposals aimed at improving the investment climate in the Republic of Moldova.

The meeting was attended by Competition Council President Alexei Gherțescu, FIA Moldova Executive Director Ana Groza, as well as experts and representatives of both entities.

Discussions focused on recommendations formulated by FIA members in Chapter IV – Competitive Framework of the White Book, which aim to strengthen a functional, predictable and European standards-aligned competitive environment through the uniform and transparent application of competition legislation, enhanced institutional cooperation and the promotion of fair competition rules.

The meeting also addressed the Competition Council’s decisional practice, including how it could influence potential deregulation processes in certain markets where prices or other commercial conditions are currently regulated by the state.

Alexei Gherțescu stressed the importance of structured and continuous technical dialogue with the business community, particularly in the context of Moldova’s alignment with the European Union acquis. Several FIA proposals were identified as potentially supportable by the competition authority. The parties also exchanged views on certain provisions of the national legislation for which no common position has yet been reached.
