KFTC Launches Task Force to Overhaul Case Handling, Accelerate Enforcement

Seoul, October 1, 2025 — The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has launched a new Task Force on Law Enforcement and Administrative Reform, aimed at improving transparency and speed in its case-handling and enforcement processes. The initiative, announced at a kick-off meeting held on October 1, marks a major step in the KFTC’s efforts to modernize its operations and align enforcement practices with public expectations of fairness and efficiency.

The KFTC said the task force will address longstanding criticisms that the agency’s investigations and case processing have often been slow and opaque, leading to calls for visible, practical reforms that the public and market participants can tangibly experience.

The new task force will therefore seek to implement fundamental reforms across all aspects of the KFTC’s enforcement system, with a focus on ensuring fairness, predictability, and timely outcomes. The task force (TF) led by the KFTC Vice Chairperson will comprise two specialized units: a Reliability Enhancement Team, headed by the Secretary General, and a Speed Improvement Team, headed by the Director General for Investigation Management.

The TF will hold weekly meetings to explore measures for expediting case resolution, strengthening accountability, and enhancing the transparency and predictability of the KFTC’s enforcement processes. According to the KFTC, this reform drive reflects its commitment to becoming a more responsive and credible competition authority, capable of addressing both market concerns and public sentiment.
