Competition Watchdog Probes Alleged Price-Fixing in Games and Stationery Sector

Brno, 3 July 2025 — The Office for the Protection of Competition has launched formal administrative proceedings against a company operating in the production and supply of games and stationery, citing concerns over possible vertical price-fixing agreements.

According to the Office, the investigation centres on suspected illegal arrangements between the company and its distributors or retailers to fix resale prices—a practice that can limit market competition and harm consumers by keeping prices artificially high.

The watchdog emphasised that the initiation of proceedings does not imply guilt. “The main purpose of administrative proceedings is to verify and prove whether a violation of the law has occurred,” the Office said in a statement. No fine or penalty has been imposed at this stage.

The identity of the company under investigation has not yet been disclosed.

Vertical price-fixing, also known as resale price maintenance, occurs when a supplier restricts a retailer’s ability to set their own prices for products. Such agreements are generally prohibited under competition law unless they meet strict exemptions.

This action signals the Office’s ongoing commitment to monitoring potentially anti-competitive practices in consumer goods markets. The case remains under investigation.
