ACCC Grants Interim Authorisation for Payment Infrastructure Discussions

1 May 2025 — The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has granted interim authorisation to Australian Payments Network Limited (AusPayNet) and Australian Payments Plus Limited (AP+) to begin early-stage coordination on the future of account-to-account payments in Australia.

The authorisation allows AusPayNet, AP+, and members of the BECS and New Payments Platform schemes to share information and start planning a common industry vision. However, it does not permit them to hold meetings or agree on a unified position at this stage.

The move aims to facilitate preparatory work involving government bodies and industry participants ahead of any future reform of payment infrastructure.

More details are available on the ACCC’s public register.
