The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has referred (14 November) the completed acquisition of Wincanton plc by GXO Logistics, Inc. for a detailed phase 2 investigation. Based on initial findings, the CMA suspects that the merger could lead to a substantial reduction in competition within certain UK markets, potentially increasing costs for business customers. The investigation will proceed unless GXO and Wincanton propose acceptable measures to address these concerns. The CMA began examining the merger in September, with a decision summary to be published shortly.
